Venice Itinerary-2 Days

Day 1 in Venice

Venice Canal Tour

Grand Canal-Venice Itinerary 2 days

A tour of the Grand Canal is the perfect introduction and, in my opinion, a must-do on your trip to Venice.

As we explain in our post, 50 Things to do in Venice on a Budget, you can do a canal tour the budget way by hopping on a vaporetto (water taxi).  Just note that the vaporetto can get crowded and it makes a lot of stops!

Since you only have 2 days in Venice and your time is precious, I would recommend doing a canal tour instead.  A canal tour will definitely save you valuable sightseeing time compared to the vaporetto.

Piazza San Marco and St. Mark’s Basilica

After your Grand Canal tour, make your way either by foot or by vaporetto to Piazza San Marco.

This bustling square, the only square in Italy to earn the title of “piazza”, is always so full of life!  Take in all of the beauty that surrounds you.  From the magnificent St. Mark’s Cathedral to the overpriced cafes, Piazza San Marco is the place to see and be seen in Venice.

While you’re here, take note of all of the people around you.  This square is bustling and serves as a reminder that we should all be looking at solving the problem of over tourism as Venice is falling victim to this more and more every day.

St Mark's Basilica-Venice Itinerary 2 days

Be sure and book your tickets for St. Mark’s Basilica in advance so that you can skip the line.  Once inside St. Mark’s, you will find a beautiful mosaic-covered interior boasting Byzantine treasures only housed in Venice!

This gorgeous basilica was once the private chapel of the Doges of Venice.

Doge’s Palace

Bridge of Sighs

Bridge of Sighs Venice Itinerary 2 days

Of course, you saw the incredible view of Venice while crossing over the Bridge of Sighs during your Doge’s Palace Tour.  Now, you have to go see the bridge from the outside and take a fabulous selfie in front of it!

Rialto Bridge and Market

Rialto Bridge-Venice Itinerary 2 days

Cross over the Grand Canal via the gorgeous Rialto Bridge, the oldest of the 4 bridges that span the Grand Canal.

Revered as one of the best architectural and engineering achievements of the Renaissance period, this fabulous bridge is a Venetian hot spot.  Take time to explore the shops that line the bridge and, of course, the beautiful view of the Grand Canal.

Cicchetti Crawl

Finish your day off as the locals do, by visiting the local bacari bars around the Rialto Market sampling all of the little bite-sized appetizers they have to offer.

Pair your cicchetti with a glass of local wine of a delicious Aperol Spritz.  The perfect ending to a great day in Venice!

Day 2 in Venice

For your second day in Venice, I feel like you need some choices.  So while you probably won’t be able to do all of these things today, choose the items that interest you the most in order to have an awesome second day in Venice

Tour to Murano and Burano

Colorful houses line a canal with boats in it

Head out to the fabulous islands surrounding Venice, Murano and Burano today.

Murano, known for its fabulous handblown glass is sure to fascinate visitors.  On Murano island, you will have the opportunity to visit a glass blowing factory and view a live demonstration of this art.

On the colorful island of Burano, you will see the fabulous colorful houses of Burano as well as see live lace-making demonstrations and visit the lace museum if you are interested.

Venice Food Tour

One of our favorite ways to experience a new city is through the local cuisine, and taking a food tour is a great way to do this.  Venice definitely has distinct dishes in comparison to other parts of Italy, so don’t miss out on this great experience.  If you’re a foodie, this is a must-do!

Get Lost in Venice

One of our favorite things to do while in Venice was to just roam around and get lost.  Just remember, you’re on an island, you aren’t going to get completely lost!  Take time to roam down the hidden alley, find little off the beaten path cafes and just take in Venetian life.

I think that everywhere you look you will find some little spot just waiting to be explored and photographed.

There is no better way to conclude your 2 day Venice itinerary than to roam around with your loved one finding your perfect spot!
